J. Anderson Ramay, Jr.

aka Andy Ramay

The Engineer. The Advocate.

The Testimonies Speak For Themselves.

    J. Anderson Ramay, Jr. (r) with teacher union leader Norreese Haynes (l).  Mr. Haynes recently stated:  “Mr. Ramay has quiet a reputation for fighting aggressively for his clients.  He may look young, but in the courtroom and in the hearings, I can assure you that he’s like an English Bulldog!” This Central and South Georgia aggressive attorney served several years as the General Counsel for the Metro Association of Classroom Educators (MACE).  He still serves as Of Counsel for MACE.

      J. Anderson (Andy) Ramay, Jr., the CEO of the American A sociation of Aggressive Attorneys (AAAA), grew up in South Georgia, graduating from Jeff Davis County High School in Hazlehurst, Georgia.  His parents still teach in the Jeff Davis County School SystemMr. Ramay started his career as a Georgia Tech-trained mechanical engineer before he became a Mercer-trained attorney.  Like an engineer, he is very tedious when it comes to deciphering the weaknesses in an opponent’s case.  This penchant for detail bodes well for Mr. Ramay’s clients.  Mr. Ramay will hook onto a weakness in the opponent’s case, and he will drill the point home in a thorough manner, all the while not offending the judge and jury.  Although Mr. Ramay’s style of being aggressive does not offend the judge and jury, the witnesses whom he is questioning take great offense at Mr. Ramay’s aggressivenessMr. Ramay recently stated:  “The Georgia Supreme Court guarantees our citizens of a right to a thorough and sifting cross examination, and I don’t intend to deprive my clients of this right.”  Despite Mr. Ramay’s rather youthful looks, he becomes a “firecracker” in the courtroom.  (Read the Testimonials section below.)

During his tenure at Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law, Mr. Ramay interned with Ken W. Smith, P.C. in Hazlehurst, the Bibb County Probate Judge, Honorable William J. Self, II, and the law firm of Bush, Crowley, Leverett & Leggett, LLP in Macon, GeorgiaMr. Ramay was a member of the Christian Legal Society and served as President during his third year in law school.  In 2004, he earned his Juris Doctorate Degree and graduated from Mercer University in the top 20% of his class.  After graduation, Mr. Ramay remained in Macon and practiced law for five years with the law firm of Bush, Crowley, Leverett, and Leggett, LLP.

In May of 2008, Mr. Ramay married Shemane Smith Ramay, his high-school sweetheart and daughter of Stanley Smith, owner of Stan’s Pharmacy in Baxley, GeorgiaShemane also graduated from Mercer University with a doctorate in Pharmacy in 2005.  In November of 2009, Mr. and Mrs. Ramay moved home to live in Hazlehurst to be close to their families and to raise their children in the same community in which they were raised.  Upon returning to Hazlehurst, Mr. Ramay moved his practice, J. Anderson Ramay, Jr. Law Firm, P.C., to Hazlehurst as well.  Mr. Ramay also works as an Of Counsel attorney with the Law Offices of Ken W. Smith, P.C.  (Judge Ken Smith is a Senior State Court Judge in Georgia.)  Mrs. Ramay is now employed as a pharmacist at the Appling County hospital.  On May 19, 2010, Mr. and Mrs. Ramay had their first child, Trey Anderson Ramay, and are thankful that they have the opportunity to raise their child in Hazlehurst.

Throughout his legal career, Mr. Ramay has practiced in various areas, focusing on divorce/child custody, personal injury, wills/probate law, criminal defense, education law and real estate.  Mr. Ramay represented cases wherein his clients have been award very hefty sums of money by the juries.  He also represented one commercial real estate firm which has a sales transaction of one billion dollars.   Mr. Ramay has filed suits for his clients against various school systems, the State Board of Pharmacy, as well as the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

Several of the cases Mr. Ramay has worked on have received a significant amount of publicity in The Macon Telegraph and all the local news stations.  One case in particular brought about much mediat attention.  Mr. Ramay represented the Macon City Council President in a highly contested matter before the Macon Municipal CourtMr. Ramay represented a developer for a huge commercial development on Hartley Bridge Road in Macon, Georgia in a highly contested court battle that again received an abundance of news publicity in The Macon Telegraph and all the local news stations.  Mr. Ramay represented a board of education member in Clayton County that was improperly removed from the board of education, which received huge publicity in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Atlanta broadcast affiliates.  In each of the three cases just mentioned that were in the media spotlight, Mr. Ramay was interviewed by reporters and aired on the Macon and Atlanta news broadcasts and also posted on the websites of  The Macon TelegraphThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and other news media.

Additionally, for the past five years, Mr. Ramay represented the Metro Association of Classroom Educators (MACE), which is a statewide union for teachers.  As MACE’s General Counsel, Mr. Ramay became highly qualified in the very unique area of education law.  Mr. Ramay has represented hundreds of teachers all over Georgia, including Atlanta Public Schools, Gwinnett County, Cobb County, DeKalb County, Greene County, Spaulding County, Hancock County, Douglas County, Fulton County, Jeff Davis County, Bibb County,  and Bacon County, as well as appeals to the State Board of Education and various matters before the Professional Standards Committee (PSC) in Atlanta, Georgia.  Of the teachers represented, roughly thirty of their cases went to trial before the local board of education or the Professional Standards CommitteeMr. Ramay has won several cases before the local boards of education, had several cases overturned at the State Board of Education level, and had one local board of education decision overturned at the local superior court and the decision for the teacher was upheld by the Georgia Court of Appeals.  Not many lawyers in the state of Georgia have the experience that Mr. Ramay has in educational law nor have acquired the level of expertise in education law that Mr. Ramay has acquired.

In addition to representing clients, Mr. Ramay is also actively involved in both the local and state bar associations and as well as in his local community.  Mr. Ramay and his family are members of Mount Zion Baptist Church.  Additionally, Mr. Ramay is currently the Chairman of the Jeff Davis County Republican Party.  While in Macon, Mr. Ramay supported the Macon Bar Association by volunteering to teach a class on ethics for incoming law students at Mercer University and also assisted with mock job interviews at the law school.  Mr. Ramay was one of 50 young lawyers selected out of over 400 applicants to be a member of the State Bar of Georgia’s Leadership Academy for the Young Lawyers Division, and Mr. Ramay is also an officer of the State Bar of Georgia’s Young Lawyers Division for the Middle District of Georgia.

My now Ex-Wife and I went through a fairly lengthy Divorce recently where she sought out a very renowned/decorated “Big City” and supposed “Hot Shot” Attorney who tried to intimidate me into settling because he had something “coming for me.”  I visited some of the local attorneys from the Metro Atlanta Area that were recommended to me, but they only wanted to discuss “their rates” and were very impersonal in regards to my situation.  I had known Mr. Ramay for years because we went to high school together.  I remembered Mr. Ramay as always being a very nice and mild-mannered guy, but I had heard he could be a firecracker in the court room.  I hired Mr. Ramay because I knew I needed an aggressive attorney to fight for me and for my rights.  Let me tell you, not for one second did he disappoint me.

Initially, my wife made fun of me for hiring a small town South Georgia lawyer, but in court Mr. Ramay struck hard like a South Georgia Rattlesnake, and needless to say, we won both times we went before the judge.  After Mr. Ramay’s performance in the courtroom, my ex-wife ain’t laughing any more.  While Mr. Ramay clearly felt at home in the Courtroom, her “Hot Shot” lawyer appeared to have a case of stage fright.  I am very thankful that I utilized Mr. Ramay during this difficult time in my life and can attest to the fact that he will forevermore be the only Attorney that I will use or trust for all of my legal matters.  When your “back is against the wall” and it is time to take the gloves off—Andy Ramay is definitely one you want ‘in your corner.’” — Justin Johnson.

“Dr. Trotter and all of MACE [teachers union], I would like to give you a well-deserved and heartfelt handshake and thank you for what MACE has done for our family.  It took MACE to finally get to the truth of the matter, and after two evenings in Butts County, justice was served.  If not for you, we would have had to endure and live with the lies and allegations that one principal who for personal reasons inflicted on my wife.  With the leadership of Andy Ramay (a very, very good lawyer), we showed that the statements that were made by members of the Newton County School System [the school system which sent false information to the Butts County School System] were false, misleading, and out-right lies.

“Again, my Thank You to MACE and to attorney Ramay for a well-presented and accurate defense to false charges and lies from members of the Newton County School System.

“WE WILL BE MEMBERS OF M.A.C.E. FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Steve Bushell

“P. S.  Please feel free to use this email on your website, and we will be looking forward to seeing this case on the Headlines Page.  You guys deserve to pat yourselves on the back for this one.”

J. Anderson Ramay, Esq., General Counsel, for MACE, has been earning quite a reputation throughout Georgia when it comes to representing teachers – whether it is before the school boards in Gwinnett, Fulton, Atlanta, Hancock, Butts, Jeff Davis, or before the Professional Standards Commission and the courts.  The consensus of all is that when a MACE teacher is represented by Anderson Ramay, this teacher is going to be thoroughly represented in a professional but aggressive manner with no stone left unturned!  Mr. Ramay hails from South Georgia originally.  He is a graduate of Georgia Tech and spent several years as an engineer before deciding to become an attorney.  He matriculated at and graduated from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.  He was my classmate with at Mercer University Walter F. George’s School of Law.  I earned a Masters of Arts and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Georgia before graduating from Mercer Law.  So I kid Mr. Ramay about his Georgia Tech roots, but Anderson’s keen analytical mind as well as his aggressive style and his passion for teachers make him the up-and-coming educational lawyer in Georgia.  Right now, I would choose Anderson before any of the ole geezers who have been traditionally considered the best in Georgia.

This week, Anderson represented one of MACE’s members before the Butts County Board of Education.  In a two-day hearing that stretched long into both nights, Mr. Ramay persuaded the Board of Education to do the right thing for the falsely accused teacher.” – John R. Alston Trotter, EdD, JD, Chairman and CEO of the Metro Association of Classroom Educator.  [Note: This same teacher just graduated from the University of Arkansas Law School and has a desire to work for falsely accused teachers.]
